Our conclusion to this experiment is that all these tests simulated what happens with colliding plates. The first test, was successful and simulated the formation of mountains. The second test was successful and simulated how two oceanic plates would collide with each other which is that one goes below the other. The third test for us, was not that successful. We tried to simulate continental plates and oceanic plates collide, but had no success. It was suppose to show how an oceanic plate and a continetnal plate collide with each other. I’d say that all the tests except the last one were all a success.

1. To the conclusion of the “Convection Currents”, when the potassium crystal was placed in the warming water on the hot plate, you can see that the there were large purple lines, were rising slowly to the top, in a circular motion.  When we placed the crystal in the cold water, the large purple lines went down in a spiral motion.

And one final thing is that, you have to be aware of the crsytal, as it can stain on your body or clothes too.

Reflective Journal-Youtube Clip

1. What does the clip say to you?

To me, what the clip is telling me that anywhere you are on Earth, whatever culture, background or race you are all have the same thing… being happy. In the clip it also shows how happiness can draw everyone together in song and dance.

2. What are the questions you would ask about the clip?

Some questions that i would ask as an individual would be:

  • What was the reason for creating the clip?
  • The cost of the clip?
  • Why choose this type of song for the clip?

3. Why is the clip shown at this point in time of the project?

To me, i think that the clip is shown now because it portrays the world as happy, but really in reality not everyone is happy. This relates to our project, Driving Question, How reliable are the media reports that shape our views of the world?

1. Likes and dislikes of this project…..any suggestions on how to improve???

In the begininng of the project, i was anxious and had no clue about the project was. Since i have just about the finish the project, personally i did not find this project interesting. “Light” did not really get my attention. What i liekd about the project was that i learned some interesting facts. What i disliked about the project is that half the information, i didn’t get it.

2. What areas do you think you have improved in from project 1 to project 4?

Ever since the start of PBL, i was getting lower grades than i usually do. But overtime i had perfected my skills and now i am better. Areas like presentations, work ethic, teamwork and written communication, i think i have improved on.

3. What further skills would you like to develop over the next few projects?

Over the next few projects, skills like presenation skills and ethic are i would like to improve on and maybe all other areas too.

1. Red sunsets can be more impressive when there are dust and other particles in the atmosphere, because shorter wavelengths of light are noteably scattered away be the particles in the air which are in the atmosphere. This allows the creation of a yellowish red sunset.

2. When light goes through a water droplet, what happens is what is called refraction. When this happens, from a human eye, you can see all the colours of the spectrum. You can tell if a rainbow is secondary or primary by how bright it is. The lighter the rainbow is, it is a secondary rainbow. If it is broghter, it is a primary rainbow.

1. How i feel that the media portraying social justice issues that is that the media portray the issues on the news, but is usually has a twist, or different meaning to the actual story being told. The media just does this becuase they want us to beleive in what they say.

2. For me in the beginning, i had problems finding social justice issues on global warming. But when both teachers both gave a better of an explain on how to find these articles, it became much easier for me to find them now.

3. To me as an individual, i think the media does operate on a moral framework. This is because, journalist and reporters are asked by their boss to find information on an issue. These company’s want to hear what they want to hear, and the journalist just give them the information they have found and they do not research enough on it. If not researched properly, the article can be come inaccurate.

long sightedness – is the condition of the eye where incoming rays of light reach the retina before they converge into a focused image.

short sightedness-see objects more clearly when they are close to the eye, while distant objects appear blurred or fuzzy.

a) What casues this defect?

short sightedness – The eyeball tends to be long. The distance from the lens to the retina is further than average. Short-sightedness is very common. It tends to run in families.  http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069162/

long sightedness-The exact causes of long-sightedness are not well understood. It is known that the eyeballs of long-sighted people tend to be smaller than average, with less curved corneas. It can also can be passes through families.

b) Long Sightedness- have to squint to see clearly, eyes feel uncomfortable after reading & writing, pain or burning in the eyes.

Short Sightedness- Causes distant objects to appear fuzzy and unfocused but nearby objects remain the same.

c) For Long Sightedness-????

For Short Sightedness i propose to use  i propose to use thin, concave lenses because the light will meet at a focal point which can be the distant object. Also the thinner the lens, the farther the focal point.

What influences your values about issues relating to your life?

What influenced my values about issues is the media. The media portray, issues, as they want them to be. Not how they really are. An example of this would be PSP. You will see people having fun on PSP all day long, but reality its fun for a while, then you loose interest.

Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?

No i don’t. I don’t do this because i never thought of doing this, and never thought of me doing it. To me, it can be a waste of time and cheesey.

Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not

This current project has challenged me and have changed my values of what the media brings because, i have realised that everything i see on the news is not all true but can just be interesting but not really the actua facts.

Journal 4 Think, pair, share

1. What i have learnt aout today  is that the media, is always shaping our everyday luife by portraying isses as they are not suppose to be. In the news, TV ads, news and shows portray the wrong or different idea of the original issue.

2. After completing the activity, what i learnt from the thinking activity, is that the media is not using the right idea for issues they read out and by this, this changes our mind to think of that and not the real meaning. An example would be the African people, i thought that they were poor, but really tribes people who were happey without objects that we have. E.G TV, computer
